Sponsored by the the American Statistical Association (ASA) Committee on International Relations in Statistics, International Data Quest is a data event that began in 2025. Every October, teams of undergraduate and master’s students will work in teams to generate and answer questions using a single large and rich dataset provided by ASA.
Data Quest awards students in three categories:
Best Data Visualization
Best Consideration of Ethics (see ASA’s Ethical Guidelines for Statistical Practice)
Best Statistical Insight
Every member of each winning team will be granted a free ASA membership for a year.
Students complete the competition within their countries first and then first place winners move up to the international level of the competition. In 2025, participants were from Brazil, Indonesia, and Türkiye. In 2026, the competition will include the following countries. Students from these countries can click on the country names to register for Data Quest in their respective countries if the links are active. We will make the links active as we receive them. Check back in September for all links.
